The Love Is Mutual
I’m sure at least once before you measured your success up against someone else, or admire one’s work in efforts to create your own. As humans we have an innate ability to be competitive in all aspects of life, whether you are competitive in work, school, sports, the list goes on. The point is we are constantly competing in some form or another. Although, I do believe friendly competition is good competition when there is a mutual understanding of support and respect for one’s craft.
Push The Envelope
In this post here, I discuss my initial fear of trying something new, in my case that was content creating. I created a Youtube Channel as a form of expression to share relatable topics from my perspective. Building up confidence in creating a Youtube channel then led to creating a blog, this very own blog site. Although I had my initial doubts of whether my content would match up to others creating, I removed that doubt and pushed forward with good intention and a positive mindset. This leads me to the subject today, Dyesha Hall. Let’s get into why we choose collaboration over competition.
Black Girl Magic
Dyesha is originally from San Diego, CA but later moved to North Carolina to attend school. We became aquatinted through our career path and soon realized we genuinely enjoyed each other’s company. After getting to know Dyesha, I learned about her liking for minimal fashion and a soft spot for Zara. Check out her latest Spring/Summer Zara haul here.
As time passed, we developed a friendship outside of work. We spoke about things outside of corporate politics, the amount to contribute to your Roth 401k, and daily work duties. Instead, we actually learned more about our similar interest in content creating, sharing tips and tricks, or even advice to better navigate this journey as a content creator.
These simple acts of support, speak to our character of collaborating and truly being invested in one’s success. Rather than competing and shying away from sharing knowledge or genuine support.
Collaborating vs Competition is like having a seat at the table for us all to win vs trying to create a seat at the table for me and my own benefit. I would rather build a community of like-minded individuals that have the same creative vision and goals to lean on for support and bounce ideas off, rather than tearing each other down. There is so much room for us all to win that it is not necessary to compete. Community over Competition.

If we leave you with anything today, please understand that simple acts of kindness and support from someone who looks just like you are possible.
